Don’t be too hard on yourself, you’re doing just fine

There’s already too much pressure for us to mount additional pressure on ourselves.

It’s the beginning of a new month and we are most likely surrounded by accomplishments; not our own accomplishments but those of others. You see all of that and wonder what you did with your life in the past month.

Look, the fact that you don’t have a new car to show or did not lose weight in the last month doesn’t make you a failure. It is just an opportunity for you to get inspired by what other people are doing and rededicate yourself to your own goals.

The reality is, we don’t all have the same goals and aspirations. So why allow other people’s milestone achievements be a source of depression to you?

Don’t dwell on your mistakes.

We all make mistakes, that’s what makes us human. But guess what else makes us human? Our ability to process patterns and do things better than before. No matter how badly you think you’ve done in the past, pick up lessons and move on to do greater things.

Stop comparing yourself to other people.

There’s a reason you’re YOU, and not HIM or HER. Rather than fall into the trap of comparison, learn to compete with yourself. Identify where you currently are and compare it with where you were last week, last month or last year to appreciate how far you’ve come. That way, you will be able to set realistic expectations and feel better about yourself.

Be grateful for what you have accomplished, no matter how small. Unlock the power of commitment within you and focus on your strengths.

Next time you feel pressured, say these words to yourself:

“Dear me, don’t be so hard on yourself, you’re doing okay.”
